VAIO X-Series Atom Z540 1.86 GHz Processor Notebook
The new X-Series VAIO ® notebook is the world’s lightest notebook1. Just how light are we talking? Only 1.6 pounds and just about one inch thin, you can just forget you’re wearing. If you are looking for an ultra-portable PC with killer styling, the X series is all.

We finally got to Ginza where Sony’s press conference for all their new Netbook, the Vaio, has occurred. We were able to shoot some photos at the CEATEC 2009, but could not get our hands on this test. As for the specs, we have an Atom Z540 (1.86 GHz) processor, a 11.1”LCD WXGA (1366×768) display, 2GB RAM, 64GB SSD, an Intel GMA 500, Wi-Fi, and W – WAN (DoCoMo), camera, Bluetooth and Office Personal 2007.
We have some time with this new baby, but we are not impressed, but not disappointed. The X-Series is a great Netbook. Solid and stylish with an aluminum and carbon fiber body. No complaints about the design, the Vaio X is a success. But why does Sony chose an Atom CPU? The Japanese manufacturer, this new series was created to complete, not to replace the Vaio P. But they could make something practical, with a larger screen, still light and easy to carry. And this baby is very light (655g against 639g for the Vaio P), and thin (13.9mm).

Fortunately, Sony has not forgotten to 64GB of SSD that integrate a boost, and a nice battery life of 16hrs. Yes, the new X-series is a bit expensive (130,000 Yen or € 996), as the Vaio P. If you want to invest in this new machine, forget the low-end models and go straight to the high end to be sure of getting something cool.
Be one of the lucky few to your hands on the provocative new VAIO Signature Collection in gold, gold paint and sexy with a 128 GB solid state drive for fast, reliable storage. Setting a new standard in battery life, the X-series notebook takes up to 14 hours8. This liberating power comes with a permanent high capacity battery that doubles as a detachable base for more comfortable typing. 3.5 hours standard battery is also included for up to 17.5 hours of total mobile computing.
No slow connections here. If you fire from the X-series, your e-mail and favorite Web sites load quickly, no matter where you are7. And wireless technology is already built, so there are no ugly PC cards or add-ons necessary. It’s all powered by the largest and most trusted network of America, Verizon Wireless Mobile Broadband Built-In. Real-time GPS functionality12 built into the X series. It is as easy as stepping from your hotel and type in the word “restaurant.” Just select the desired and follow turn-by-turn directions displayed on an easy to read map. No Internet connection needed. [via sonystyle]
